The Witch Wound shows up as a deep often irrational fear of being seen and heard especially for your unique and spiritual gifts. It also shows up as fear of being seen as powerful, as a leader or as different, weird, or not normal.
It shows up as a fear of speaking your truth, being authentic, setting boundaries and expressing your needs, desires and preferences. It can show up as a fear of stating your value, asking for money, asking to be paid what your time and energy are really worth to you and charging for your spiritual gifts and feminine arts.
It also shows up as The Sisterhood Wound which includes feelings of competitiveness with other women, inherent distrust of or dislike of women and feelings of scarcity and envy with other women, especially in regard to men, money and power. The Sisterhood Wound is a result of hundreds and perhaps thousands of years of women being forced to betray one another to survive and being discouraged or even outlawed from gathering together leading to competition, judgment, jealousy, and a belief that other women are unsafe.
The Witch Wound also shows up as fear of embodiment, sensuality and nature. This includes feeling disconnected from one’s body, sexuality and other natural functions, often resulting in pain or numbness, shame and repressing one’s feelings, sexuality, and wild, natural self. This can lead to difficulty being in one’s body and trusting one’s intuitive knowing and inner authority. Distrust of one’s self, one’s body and natural cycles creates favoring rigid logic over intuitive, emotional, or spiritual wisdom. Disconnection from nature can lead to a disrupted circadian rhythm and being out of sync with the natural cycles of the sun, moon, seasons and one’s natural cycles of energy, rest and fertility and can result in physical and mental health challenges, depletion and burn out.
The Witch Wound can show up as the “Good Girl” Perfectionism Wound and an obsessive need to be “good,” compliant, and agreeable, repressing anger and emotions to appear calm, logical and nonthreatening to avoid being labeled as dangerous, “weird,” or “bad”.
Lastly, the Witch Wound can lead to fear of economic success. A subconscious fear that success, wealth, or power is risky or dangerous, leading to self-sabotage, holding oneself back financially, or fearing leadership. It can show up as fear and distrust of society, the mainstream or the world of business and money.
During the witch hunts, witch trails and mass genocide in Europe that went on for over 300 years primarily from the 1500-1800s, hundreds of thousands of people, primarily older women, were tortured and murdered through hanging, strangulation and being burned alive for witchcraft. Many of these women were successful midwives and healers and held resources, knowledge and land in common for their communities. Others simply did not fit the young, fertile, beautiful, compliant and powerless stereotype that was being promoted for women in a newly patriarchal society.
The government and church funded full time witch hunters, books on witch hunting and witch hunting propaganda campaigns that led to the privatization of land, capitalism and the wage slavery system we live in today. If towns or communities did not comply with the witch hunting agendas at times entire villages and communities perished including men, children and even pets. Women were forced to name other women as witches while being tortured. This legacy and trauma lives on in our psyches unconsciously affecting our society, culture and so much more than we realize.
